| Geographical situation : | | | The vineyard, exploited by the family, is located on the famous surface of Controlled Origin Appellation " Châteauneuf du Pape ", in the heart of Vaucluse. It spreads out over the very stony grounds of the southern slope, (typical characteristic of the label). A part of the estate overflows on two neighbour villages that are also included in the Controlled Origin Appellation " Côtes du Rhône " and " Vin de Pays ". | | | | | The vineyard " Châteauneuf du Pape " is composed of 11 ha distributed out of 15 different lots located on places called la Font du Loup (sandy ground), Armeniers and Serres (stony grounds). Grenache is dominating there(80 %), complemented by Syrah and Mourvèdre | | | | | | | Climate and Varieties : | | | The choice of varietals was determined along the centuries according to the climatic conditions (heat, dryness, wind), and according to the soils (stony, sandy, with rolled stones). | Grenache, which comes from Spain ("Garnacha"), is a vigorous type of vine which can resist the strongest winds. Its maturity being late, it adapts very well to hot climates. Poor and stony soils enable it to express all its qualitative potential, alcohol and purplished crimson color.
Blended with Grenache, Syrah brings body, structure and improves ability to age. Its raspberry and blackcurrant flavours become, into growing old, truffle, smoke. The nose is often very complex. | | | | | | | | Did you know? Wine growing takes an active part in the installation of the soil and the protection of the landscapes. |
